The Vagina's Angry Tantrum or Best Defense Mechanism
Vaginismus is basically a medical condition that makes insertion painful or impossible for women in the vaginal area due to constriction of pelvic floor muscles. The contraction of the muscles can be like an uncontrolled angry tantrum when the thought, idea, or attempt is made to insert something into the vagina. It is an uncontrolled muscle reaction that isn't planned or wanted by the person suffering.
As a sufferer I make the bad joke that it is like the best defense mechanism. It can weed out the guys whom are only in the relationship for sex and are not worthy of your time. My husband has stuck by me. He isn't cheating or gay or asexual. He wants sex like any other regular Joe. He wants it with me. This means a lot of patience and understanding on his part.
This condition has resulted in my inability to wear a tampon, have pap smears, or have sex. I have made progress in the past but then regressed after childbirth. I know I will get back to where I was once before. The big thing is positive attitude and working toward the end goal. Having a good support system.
This blog is to bring awareness and share experiences and my thoughts.
